A little sorting goes a long way — it keeps good material out of the landfill and cuts down what hits your curb each week. Here are the basics. (Recycling rules vary by program — confirm what’s accepted in our area.)
What Usually Recycles
- Paper & cardboard — flattened, clean and dry.
- Plastic bottles & jugs — rinsed, caps on or off per your program.
- Metal cans — aluminum and steel, rinsed.
- Glass bottles & jars — where your program accepts them.
Keep These Out
- Plastic bags and film (they jam sorting equipment).
- Food-soiled paper, greasy pizza boxes.
- Styrofoam, and “tanglers” like hoses or cords.
Reduce What You Toss
Break down boxes, skip single-use where you can, and keep a separate bin handy so recycling doesn’t end up in the trash out of habit.
